PATRIOTS' HALL ASSOCIATION
Museum News: Every Saturday this winter the museum has had both old and new members visit. What a great activity for families and friends when the weather is cold or raining.
Display: The visitors have brought unique, interesting military items to donate or place on loan. Often, an apology is the only response in that available display space has become very limited. We continue to locate an appropriate area for the item but we are running out of space. A grant application was approved and funds were provided by the Seneca Office of Schneider-Electric for the renovation of half of our last room, one that had been used for storage. This work has been contracted for and work will begin later in February. The room will be special in that only rare and unique military items will be displayed here. The items will be obtained on loan from other museums or from individuals desiring special security and protection for their items. A safe has been purchased and a special security system will be installed in this area.
Board of Directors: We have lost some members and added others but there are still openings. Anyone interested would be welcome at any meeting. The meetings are held once a month on the last Thursday at 5:30 at the museum. Current members of the Board are: President Jon Busch, Vice President Tom Yates, Interim Treasurer Charlie Brickett and Secretary Joyce Brickett. Other members are Jimmy Grant, Don Story, Skip Wakeman and Barbara Yates. Bud Lorsch is an advisory member.
Future Events: The sixth annual Vet-Fest, a PHA fund raiser held to honor all veterans, will take place on March 22nd (rain date will be March 29th). All vehicles (motorcycles and cars) are welcome. The cost is $25 for each with a $10 charge-for an additional hand. Registration will begin at 11:00 AM at the VFW Post 6820. The Post is located at 2415 Highlands Highway in Walhalla. The award presentation will be at the same location at 4:00 PM. There will be an auction of items and services donated by area businesses. A dinner meal will be available as well. Come on out and enjoy a fun day … even if you don't want to enter the event, there will be a need for volunteers to help.
Membership: Many long time memberships will expire this month. If yours is one of them, a notice has been included with this newsletter. Please fill out the form below, clip and send in and your membership will be renewed through Feb. 2015. Memberships are a big help for Patriots Hall because they bring in the income that allows us to pay our bills and reach our goals of providing Oconee with a wonderful museum to honor military history and all veterans… "Lest we Forget"!
Walk of Honor: We have room left for more bricks and you may purchase one in memory of someone or to honor either an individual or a group. Those honored do not have to be local or veterans. The cost of bricks is now $60. An order is sent in and it takes about six weeks from that date to receive the bricks. Forms to order bricks are located at the museum or on the web site oconeeveteransmuseum.org
