Museum News: The 2012 Vet Fest event in March and the Patriots' Hall yard sale in April were successful. We would like to thank everyone who participated and/or volunteered. The income from these events help PHA reach its goals and help to pay the cost of operating and maintaining the museum.

Membership: Some of our members have not yet renewed through February 2013. Many new members have been added. Thank you for supporting the museum.

Challenge: The fate of the old county courthouse is still unknown. The Oconee County Council appears to be dragging their feet. The PHA Board members only hear rumors that this historically significant building might be saved from demolition. A request to our members is to urge your county representatives to support saving the building. If the courthouse is saved, we look forward to the possibility that we could expand and use part of it as an annex. Additional artifacts and small military vehicles could be displayed. What a great way to tell the complete story. Both Oconee County and Walhalla would benefit. Tourism would increase and PHA could offer items that are not often seen in small, military museums.

Walk of Honor: Work is still being done to expand this area. A few more bricks in memory of or in honor of a friend, a veteran, a group or a family member are needed to place our next order. To order a brick call A.J. Smith at 864-280-0107 or stop by the museum for an order form.

Reminder: During these summer months remember to include Patriots' Hall when you are showing our beautiful area of the upstate to your visitors. Private tours of the museum can be arranged anytime by calling Jon at 864-638-8558. Regular hours for the museum to be open are still 10 AM to 3 PM every Saturday.

PHA Board of Directors: PHA members are always welcome at meetings. Current members are: President, A.J. Smith, Vice President, Jon Busch, Treasurer, Helen Moore, and Secretary, Joyce Brickett, Other members are Rocky Anderson, Rick Bethea, Charlie Brickett, George Doyle, Sherra Harrison, Vic Hart, Bud Lorsch, Pat Morgan, and Don Story. The Board meets monthly at 5:30 on the last Thursday evening at the museum. The Board is always looking for suggestions and new ideas. If you are interested in military history, have leadership skills and want to be of service, please let a Board member know. Docents are always needed. If you can help in this way, stop by on a Saturday and volunteer.

Upcoming Event: On August 4th we will celebrate our sixth birthday and an artists' appreciation ceremony. Many volunteer hours have been spent creating special additions to the museum. Local artists Jim and Donna Juras have completed a ten-panel mural on the stairwell wall and the upstairs hall wall. The mural tells a chronological story of United States military history. Also included are significant quotations from the past. Sandy Nelson, another local artist, has created a beautiful stain glass window of the PHA logo. This artwork will be inserted in the window upstairs over the entrance to the museum. We invite everyone to meet the artists and join the celebration and appreciation ceremony to be held at 1:00 on Saturday, August 4th. Refreshments will be served.
