PATRIOTS' HALL ASSOCIATION
Museum News: The sixth birthday and artist appreciation ceremony on August 4th was well attended. It's amazing, but we still have folks coming by the museum for their first visit. We want to express appreciation to Tom Alexander and Bill Whitmire for their contributing remarks of support. If you have not seen the ten panel military mural by Jim and Donna Juras and the patriotic stained glass window by Sandy Nelson, you're missing some beautiful artwork.
Old Courthouse: It looks like PHA has lost out on any part of this building. We do not know what is going to happen to it. An offer has been submitted to turn it into a hotel that will include a restaurant and retail space. The Board of Directors is searching other options to increase space. We are proud of our displays and we want to thank the folks who bring in their items. Additional space would provide room for growth and the possibility of displaying unique items uncommon to small military museums. Ideas include adding military vehicles and life-size dioramas. Visitors will visualize a more complete picture of what military life is like.
Security: Because of our collections, security is a serious concern. Currently, the museum is protected by a motion detector alarm system. An improvement would be a monitored system that would also record. It has been suggested that someone might have a used system that is no longer needed. Please contact us if you know of one we could purchase.
Annual Meeting: The PHA Annual Meeting will he held on Thursday, November 15th at Jimmy's Restaurant on route 123 in Seneca at 6:30. This event is the PHA Board's opportunity to thank our membership for their support by offering a meal and fellowship at no charge. Attending will also provide an insight into the long range plans for the museum, a little country music and an introduction to the current Board members. According to the PHA Bylaws, Board service requires membership approval. We are always looking for volunteers and as the museum grows, we will need additional help. If you would like to have your name added as someone willing to serve on the Board or if you would like to volunteer or become a museum guide, please fill out the form below. Also let us know if you will be attending the Annual Meeting at Jimmy's.
Other Upcoming Events:
Exciting Edition: A "friend" is going to loan his WLA, fully restored WWII Harley Davidson motorcycle to the museum. It will go on display soon.
Membership: It is time once again to renew your PHA membership. This membership will be valid through February of 2014. These funds help PHA move ahead with the goal of providing Oconee County a veterans' museum everyone can be proud of.
Fill out the membership form, print it and send it in.
