PATRIOTS' HALL ASSOCIATION
Dedicated To Our Veterans In Honor Of Their Service To Our Country: Lest We Forget!
- Second Floor: Slat-wall, similar to what covers the downstairs' walls, has been received and soon
will be installed. Funds for completing this area have been provided by a matching grant from
the South Carolina National Heritage Corridor. Having this type of wall allows us to enhance
and move displays around when necessary.
- Mural: Our artists, Jim and Donna Juris, are donating their time and artistic talent to providing
the museum with excellent artwork depicting each of the military conflicts. Currently, work is
being completed on the third panel located on the stair well. The first two panels of the
Revolutionary War and the Civil War respectively, are complete.
- Quilt: A "Support Our Troops" quilt has been donated and is on display upstairs in the library.
The pattern will be duplicated onto a board that will be hung in an upstairs window facing Short
Street. The cutting of the board and the artwork will be done by Hamilton Career Center
students. A "story" will go with the quilt telling about our quilter and the origin of the yellow
ribbon pattern. When it is hung, Patriots' Hall will be proud to become a member of the Upstate
Heritage Quilt Trail.
- New Sign: The South Carolina National Heritage Corridor has partnered with PHA to provide a
sign for the front of the building. The sign has been installed but it needs to be corrected. This
will be done soon. The purpose of this sign is to tell those folks who visit at times when the
museum is not open about the history of the Old Rock Building, what Patriots' Hall represents,
and some of what is displayed inside the building.
Project: The PHA Board is still working on a plan to save the Old Court House from demolition. We
believe that this building has period beauty and will be useful to Oconee County in many ways.
We ask that you support us as this plan continues to evolve.
- Veterans' Day: November 11 falls on a Friday this year. The museum will be open to visitors
after the 11:00 ceremony that will take place in front of the County Court House. All veterans
will be honored and light refreshments will be served.
- Annual Meeting: Please mark your calendars for our annual celebration and be guests of the Board of Directors on November 17th at the International Deli, 266 Market Street, Seneca. This
site was previously Butter Beans. We will start at 6:00 with a short program followed by a
holiday type buffet meal. We look forward to sharing the evening with you, our loyal supporters,
because without you there wouldn't be a veterans' museum in Oconee County. This event is our
way of expressing our gratitude. There will be no charge.
They will be missed: This year we have lost two members who have helped Patriots' Hall be what it
has become over the last five years. Our love and sympathy go out to the friends and family of
Phil Piazza and to those of Carroll Gambrell. Both of these guys were wonderful gentlemen,
loyal contributors ahd most importantly, veterans. We will miss them.
Veterans Interview Program: We are looking for a replacement editor to help put our interviews on
a DVD-format. We are still going ahead with interviews so If you know a veteran who has not yet
recorded his or her "story", please call A.J. Smith at 280-0107 to set up an appointment.
Walk of Honor: If you have not seen this area of the museum lately, stop by and see how it is
growing. We need ten bricks before we can place a new orde
Membership: It is time to renew. Your membership will be valid through 2-2013. Please fill out and return the form below before November 10th. Your continuous support is appreciated.
